Privacy policy

SECTION 1 — WHAT WE COLLECT

We collect information in a few ways:

Information you give us directly:

  • Name, email address, shipping and billing address, and payment information when you place an order
  • Communications you send us, including emails and customer service inquiries
  • Any content you submit through contests, design submissions, or promotions

Information collected automatically: When you visit our store, we and our third-party partners automatically collect certain information, including:

  • IP address and general location data
  • Browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages visited, time spent, links clicked, and referring URLs
  • Purchase history and browsing behavior within our store
  • Cookie identifiers and similar tracking data

Information from third parties: We may receive information about you from advertising platforms, analytics providers, and social media networks when you interact with our content or ads on those platforms.

SECTION 2 — HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION

We use the information we collect to:

  • Process and fulfill your orders and communicate with you about them
  • Send you marketing emails and promotions (you can opt out at any time)
  • Improve our store, products, and customer experience
  • Analyze purchasing patterns, browsing behavior, and customer preferences — including through automated and AI-assisted analysis — to better understand what our customers love and to make better business decisions
  • Serve you targeted advertising on platforms including but not limited to Google, Pinterest, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Retarget you with ads based on your visit to our store or your interactions with our content
  • Comply with legal obligations

A note on AI-assisted analysis: We use automated tools and AI-assisted systems to analyze customer behavior patterns, purchasing trends, and engagement data in aggregate and at the individual level. This helps us understand what's working and serve you better. This analysis does not make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and provide appropriate notice.

SECTION 3 — COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES

We use cookies, pixels, tags, and similar tracking technologies extensively. Here's what that means in practice:

What we use:

  • Google Analytics — to understand how visitors use our store
  • Google Ads / Google Tag Manager — for advertising and conversion tracking
  • Pinterest Tag — to measure ad performance and enable retargeting on Pinterest
  • Facebook/Meta Pixel — to measure ad performance and enable retargeting on Facebook and Instagram
  • Shopify's built-in tracking — for store functionality, checkout, and analytics
  • Email platform tracking — to measure open rates, clicks, and engagement in our emails
  • Other third-party analytics and advertising tools — as our stack evolves

What this means for you: These technologies allow us and our partners to recognize you across sessions and devices, track your behavior on and off our site, and serve you ads based on your interests and activity. If you've visited our store and then seen one of our ads somewhere else — that's retargeting, and yes, we do that intentionally.

You can limit certain tracking through your browser settings, by opting out of interest-based advertising at optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org, or by adjusting your settings on individual platforms like Google and Facebook. Note that opting out of tracking does not opt you out of seeing ads — it affects whether those ads are personalized.

Shopify may also set cookies necessary for the operation of our store. Those are outside our direct control.

SECTION 4 — HOW WE SHARE YOUR INFORMATION

We do not sell your personal information to third parties in the traditional sense. However, under California law, sharing data with advertising partners in exchange for services may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We disclose this transparently: we do share data with advertising and analytics partners as described in this policy, and California residents have rights regarding this — see Section 7.

We share your information with:

  • Shopify — our ecommerce platform, which processes and stores data on our behalf
  • Printify and our print fulfillment partners — to produce and ship your orders
  • Payment processors — to process transactions securely
  • Email marketing platforms — to send you communications
  • Advertising platforms — including Google, Pinterest, and Meta, for ad delivery and measurement
  • Analytics providers — to analyze store performance
  • AI and data analysis tools — to analyze patterns and improve our business
  • Legal and regulatory authorities — when required by law

All third-party partners are required to handle your data in accordance with applicable law and their own privacy policies.

SECTION 5 — EMAIL MARKETING

If you provide your email address, you may receive marketing emails from us. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can opt out at any time and we will honor that promptly.

Transactional emails — order confirmations, shipping notifications — are not marketing emails and will still be sent regardless of your marketing preferences.

SECTION 6 — DATA RETENTION

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Order information is typically retained for a minimum of five years for tax and accounting purposes.

SECTION 7 — CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):

  • Right to Know — You can request a copy of the personal information we've collected about you in the past 12 months, including the categories of information, the sources, the purposes, and the third parties we've shared it with.
  • Right to Delete — You can request that we delete your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Correct — You can request that we correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
  • Right to Opt Out of Sale/Sharing — As described above, we share data with advertising partners in ways that may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" under California law. You have the right to opt out of this. To do so, email us at support@elizamakesshirts.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request — Opt Out."
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information — We do not collect sensitive personal information as defined under CPRA beyond what is necessary for order fulfillment.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination — Exercising your privacy rights will not affect your ability to shop with us or the prices you pay.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@elizamakesshirts.com. We will respond within 45 days. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.

We do not knowingly sell the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age.

SECTION 8 — CHILDREN'S PRIVACY

Our store is operated for and by adults making purchasing decisions. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us at support@elizamakesshirts.com and we will delete it promptly.

Contest entries and design submissions involving minors must be submitted by a parent or guardian, who by submitting consents to the collection and use of that content as described in our Terms of Service.

SECTION 9 — SECURITY

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. Our store is hosted on Shopify, which maintains its own robust security infrastructure. Payments are processed through encrypted, PCI-compliant systems. That said, no system is perfectly secure — we cannot guarantee absolute security.

SECTION 10 — THIRD-PARTY PRIVACY POLICIES

Our store links to and integrates with third-party platforms including Shopify, Google, Meta, Pinterest, and others. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review those policies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties.

SECTION 11 — CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time. The current version is always on this page, with the date at the top. Material changes will be communicated as required by applicable law. Continued use of our store after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
